Chuck Walz is from Munith, Michigan. Before becoming a pilot, Chuck was on a balloon crew. He has been a licensed balloon pilot since 1993 and has 820 hours as pilot-in-command of a balloon. Chuck works for the Jackson County Road Commission. He has a wife named Cindy and has a son named Brian. He has participated in this event for many years.

The name of his balloon is "Lucky Trails". Chuck's crew consists of his crew chief and wife Cindy, brother Rusty and his girlfriend Sarah.
